New code for seismic design of buildings in Indonesia

In 1973 the Indonesian Government published in their Blue Book of desirable projects; an Earthquake Engineering Study called Project KTA6A. Following interest by the NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and BCHF, discussions and proposals in Indonesia led to the acceptance of BCHFs credentials in late 1974. Subsequently it was decided that the NZ input should be directed by a specially selected committee. By mid-1976 the committee was established and the project began under the New Zealand Bilateral Assistance Programme to Indonesia.

The outcome was the drafting of the first building design code for seismic resistant structures in Indonesia which remains highly relevant to Indonesian conditions. A paper, published by BCHF’s Ian Fraser in 1983, can be found online and summarises the code in more detail – https://bit.ly/2GyKo2f
