Start of the Mangere Wastewater Plant

At the opening of the Mangere Wastewater Treatment Plant, it was described as “Auckland’s biggest infrastructural investment in a generation.” The $450 million design build project involved constructing the world’s largest UV disinfection system at that time. Beca was an equity stakeholder within Manukau Wastewater Services, the consortium that delivered the project, contributing wastewater, civil and environmental engineering expertise to help transform the existing plant into a superior facility and rehabilitate 400 hectares of treatment ponds, returning them to the Manukau Harbour.
