Grafton Gully – NZ’s first alliance delivery

Transit New Zealand’s Grafton Gully project was the first project in New Zealand to use the alliance delivery model. Aimed at improving the strategic link between Auckland’s lower CBD, the port area and the motorway network, the project was delivered by Freeflow – an alliance between Transit, Beca, Fletcher Construction and Higgins Contractors.

Alliancing was a new delivery mechanism for New Zealand but had been used frequently overseas to deliver major capital works projects. It enabled earlier and more effective interaction between the designer, the constructor and the project owner than conventional contract delivery mechanisms.
