Building Shanghai Ocean Aquarium


The US$55 million Shanghai Ocean Aquarium, one of the largest in Asia, was reputed to have the longest underwater tunnel in the world at the time of completion, measuring 155 metres. With an area of 12,094 m2, you’ll find a five-storey aquarium block and a carpark/office block.

 

Local requirements were incorporating within the design, with Beca responsible for geotechnical, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and lighting engineering services, and working closely with a local design institute. The building structures and the foundation were designed to be earthquake resistant.
