Innovative artesian heating and cooling system at Christchurch International Airport

In 2004, Christchurch International Airport embarked on a $237 million Integrated Terminal Project to replace the original 1960s building and cater for future growth. The project’s ethos – sustainable, energy efficient operations – underpinned the development.

Completed in 2013, the terminal has an innovative artesian heating and cooling system. Designed and delivered by Beca, the system has attracted both national and international industry recognition; winning International Project of the Year at the 2015 CIBSE Building Performance Awards in London amongst others.
