Sustainable design: Papamoa Library and Community Centre

The new Papamoa Library and Community Centre provides a focal point for the local community. Situated close to the magnificent Papamoa Beach, the building reflects its location while also achieving the objectives of Tauranga City Council, who wanted an energy efficient building to demonstrate their commitment to sustainable design and operation of their buildings.

Beca was responsible for all engineering design services, providing a creative yet cost-effective design that resulted in an integrated energy efficient building. This was achieved by incorporating design features such as heat pump underfloor heating, thermal mass and cooling, automated window controls and rainwater recycling.
