2012
Wairakei Bioreactor completed

The Wairakei Bioreactor remains Beca’s first and only Global Winner in the Design Projects Category at the International Water Association 2014 Global Project Innovation Awards Competition – one of the most prestigious international accolades ever awarded to a Beca project

The multi-award-winning project was the first industrial-scale facility of its type in the world, proven to reduce the amount of H2S in the cooling water from a geothermal power plant near Taupo, New Zealand. The completion of the project in 2012 was a collective triumph for Beca’s engineers, the client Contact Energy and constructors Downer, after years of research, field trials, experimental prototypes and complex construction techniques.
